Position Summary Do you enjoy bringing order to many moving parts, working with people, and seeing the practical results of your work each day? The Grain & Community Operations Lead keeps Honoré Farm and Mill’s daily operations moving—from receiving grain and fulfilling orders to managing inventory, coordinating deliveries, running farmers market operations, and supporting community events. This person will play a central role in making the new Granary and Millhouse a reliable, welcoming hub where locally grown grain moves efficiently from farmers to customers and communities. This is an active, hands-on position requiring regular in-person work at Honoré’s San Rafael facility and throughout the Bay Area. Working closely with the Operations Manager, School Food & Market Development Lead, and wider Honoré team, the Operations Lead will coordinate the products, equipment, supplies, schedules, and people needed to keep the organization running smoothly. The role is well suited to someone who takes initiative, solves problems calmly, and can move confidently between detailed logistical work and warm interaction with customers, vendors, volunteers, and community partners. The right person will take ownership of multiple priorities, anticipate what needs to happen next, and find satisfaction in making sure the work gets done well. Hours: Part-Time | Approx. 0.6–0.7 FTE Schedule: Hybrid, with regular in-person presence at the Granary & Millhouse in San Rafael. Approximately three days per week onsite, with some flexibility depending on operational needs. Some weekend work is required, including approximately 1–2 Saturday Farmers Markets per month and occasional Honoré events. Key Responsibilities - Warehouse, Fulfillment & Inventory - Oversee day-to-day warehouse organization, cleanliness, and food-safety readiness. - Lead weekly online order fulfillment, CSA packing and distribution, and retail flour packaging. - Ensure packaged products meet Honoré’s quality, labeling, and presentation standards. - Maintain day-to-day readiness of warehouse, packaging, and fulfillment equipment and supplies. - Maintain accurate finished-product, merchandise, packaging, and supply inventory, including regular cycle counts. - Forecast and order packaging, fulfillment, and general warehouse supplies. - Coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments, receive deliveries, and organize products and supplies appropriately within the facility. - Be available onsite for routine deliveries, pickups, contractors, and other operational needs. - Farmers Market Operations - Work approximately 1–2 Saturday Farmers Markets per month. - Coordinate Farmers Market staffing and schedules, including staff cover when required. - Train and onboard Farmers Market Educators. - Prepare weekly market stock, bread orders, equipment, and supplies. - Manage cash reconciliation and bank deposits. Events & Mobile Mill Education - Coordinate operational logistics for Honoré events and educational programs. - Prepare and organize event equipment and supplies and coordinate transport, setup, and breakdown. - Attend Honoré events and provide onsite operational support, including setup and breakdown. - Prepare the Mobile Mill and other equipment as needed. - Coordinate volunteers and event support as appropriate. - Work alongside the School Food & Market Development Lead to support school programs, taste tests, educational activities, partner activities, and other school food initiatives as needed. General Operations - Manage routine local deliveries, pickups, and other operational errands. - Maintain clear communication with the Operations Manager on inventory, operational issues, and upcoming priorities. - Work with the milling team to coordinate finished flour inventory for fulfillment. - Support operational systems and identify opportunities to improve day-to-day processes. - Participate in Honoré’s weekly Tuesday morning team meeting, held in person at the Granary & Millhouse.
Qualifications - Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through. - Experience in operations, fulfillment, logistics, events, warehouse management, food production, or a related field preferred. - Self-directed and comfortable taking ownership of multiple operational priorities. - Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff, vendors, contractors, and volunteers. - Comfortable working in a hands-on environment and able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. - Valid California driver’s license, access to a personal vehicle, and ability to drive locally throughout the Bay Area. - Food Handler’s Certificate, or willingness to obtain one. - Comfortable using or learning platforms such as Google Workspace, Slack, and Squarespace. - Availability for approximately 1–2 Saturday Farmers Markets per month and occasional weekend events.
